Hello everyone, I am currently planning to get the IKEA Platsa furniture series and have a specific question about it: How can I assemble the PLATSA furniture if I don’t have any tools on hand? I don’t own a drill, screwdriver, or anything like that—literally nothing. The instructions usually don’t show how to do it without tools. Are there any tricks or methods to assemble it without tools, such as using wall plugs, click systems, or other practical tips? I am wondering if certain screws or connections can be replaced or if the entire piece can be assembled completely tool-free. What experiences do you have with this? I look forward to your advice!

This is a very interesting topic that I’m familiar with mostly out of necessity. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when a piece of furniture requires screws, but all you have are your hands or maybe a coin. I want to encourage you: although it’s not always easy, with patience and a bit of creativity, you can achieve more than you might expect.

For example, screws can sometimes be turned using a sturdy coin if you don’t have a screwdriver. Some PLATSA parts also feature locking mechanisms that can be pressed or snapped into place. If the right wall plugs are missing, you might consider whether friction fittings alone are sufficient. However, it mainly depends on the type of furniture you are assembling.

I would also recommend double-checking before starting which fasteners are necessary and whether you can use replacement parts that work without tools. Are you dealing with any specific details or particular installation conditions?

Tool-free assembly is not entirely possible with PLATSA. Screws and wall plugs are required. If you don’t have any tools, you can use a coin as a screwdriver substitute and a heavy book as a hammer substitute.

Hello, I completely understand your concern about assembling PLATSA without tools. It’s important to know that while PLATSA is modular and relatively easy to assemble, it still requires tools like a cordless drill or screwdriver to properly secure the connectors.

Tool-free solutions such as click systems are not designed for PLATSA; those are more common with other IKEA systems. However, you can find small alternatives if, for example, you don’t have a screwdriver: a cheap spare coin or a small screwdriver from other devices can be helpful.

Important: Don’t try to turn the screws by hand with brute force – this can damage the nuts and make the furniture unstable. It’s better to use an improvised tool and have plenty of patience.

If you want to avoid tools completely, I’d consider purchasing shelving units with plug-in connections that don’t rely on screws, as otherwise it might be unsafe.

Good luck, and feel free to ask if you have further questions or want to specify which parts you’re assembling.

This is really important.

Additionally: With PLATSA, stability is particularly crucial, as these are sometimes tall cabinets. Therefore, you need to tighten the screws properly. Doing this entirely without tools is difficult if not impossible.

My advice: If you don’t have a cordless screwdriver, at least get a basic screwdriver. It’s very affordable and helps a lot, especially with PLATSA. Alternatively, you can borrow tool sets for a low price if you only plan to assemble something once.

Many users underestimate this, but good tools save frustration and prevent crooked furniture.

I agree with that. I remember trying to assemble another IKEA piece of furniture completely without any tools, and it quickly became frustrating.

Additionally, I can recommend a small mental trick: break the task into smaller parts, like assembling half the screws first, then taking a break, and then doing the other half. Sometimes this helps reduce frustration.

And honestly, it’s also fun when everything fits together well and the furniture feels solid in the end. Especially with PLATSA, there aren’t many options for assembling without tools.
