Hello everyone, I’m looking for tips and tricks on how to assemble Ikea Hemnes furniture in a way that saves as much space as possible. My main goal is to maximize storage in smaller rooms without the furniture feeling bulky or overwhelming the space. I’m particularly interested in whether there are special installation techniques or modifications that can help use the furniture more efficiently. For example, would certain wall mountings, combinations of different Hemnes components, or even alterations to the furniture itself be useful? I would really appreciate practical advice and firsthand experiences!

I would recommend attaching Hemnes dressers directly to the wall to store them safely and keep more floor space visible. Additionally, stacking different elements such as shelves and dressers can help if it fits the design.

Basically, it is important to pay close attention to the dimensions of the Hemnes series in order to integrate the furniture as efficiently as possible into the available space. Installing the shelves up to the ceiling saves additional space, especially when the top panel is removed or variations with open compartments are used. It is also recommended to place furniture with drawers at the top, as this allows easier access to the storage space without requiring much clearance for opening. For small rooms, combinations of narrow cabinets and wall shelves are suitable.

Hello! I understand that the desire for space-saving setups with Hemnes furniture is common, especially in smaller apartments. The first important step is planning with precise room measurements and considering the intended function of each furniture piece. Hemnes often offers narrow cabinets, dressers, and shelves that can be easily combined with other furniture. For example, you can mount a narrow cabinet to the wall and install wall shelves above it to utilize vertical space for extra storage. Making use of niches has also proven effective, particularly because Hemnes furniture comes in a variety of sizes and heights. Personally, I would also recommend always having the doors open outward rather than into the room when space is limited.

Wall mounting makes sense, but it’s not always the most aesthetically pleasing. You could even skip assembling the furniture and stack the parts on top of each other—many consider this a design faux pas, but it saves a lot of space! Hemnes is a classic, but who says you have to set it up conventionally? You should give the furniture a second purpose—such as using it as a room divider or open shelving with customized modifications—to organize the space more effectively.

Hey, great topic! I really like the Hemnes series and have tried a lot with it myself. 🙂 To save space, I often use Hemnes dressers as a base and place open Hemnes shelves on top – it not only looks great but also creates a lot of vertical storage! Additionally, for some models, you can remove the doors if opening them gets in the way or takes up too much room. Baskets or boxes in the compartments are also practical to optimize storage. Don’t be afraid of small modifications – the fun of customizing it is definitely worth it!
