finnleytu21 Jun 2022 18:23Hello everyone,
I recently assembled a Hemnes wardrobe from Ikea, but I noticed that one of the doors is not properly aligned. It hangs slightly crooked and does not close flush. Since the wardrobe is still new, I would expect that this can be adjusted.
My question is: How exactly can the doors of an Ikea Hemnes wardrobe be adjusted to achieve a perfect alignment?
I would like to know which screws or mechanisms are designed for this and what sequence I should follow to make sure the door closes evenly and securely.
If anyone has tips on handling the hinges or fine-tuning on the inside of the door, I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance for your help!

With Hemnes doors, you can adjust the height, depth, and alignment using the hinges.
- Turn the large knurled screw to adjust the height.
- The small screw moves the door to the right or left.
- Another screw adjusts the depth.
It is best to first adjust the height, then align it sideways, and finally set the depth.

I’m happy to help with a clearer explanation: The Hemnes cabinet doors use adjustable overlay hinges, which are very flexible.
If you want to adjust the door, the best way to proceed is:
- Open the door so you can easily access the hinges.
- Usually, the hinge has three adjustment screws: one for lateral adjustment, one for depth, and one for height.
- The lateral screw adjusts the door horizontally so it aligns flush with the adjacent door or the cabinet frame.
- The depth screw changes the distance between the door and the cabinet frame—this helps avoid gaps or pinching.
- The height screw allows you to raise or lower the door so it sits level with other doors.
It’s usually worth closing the door and checking the fit after each small adjustment to gradually achieve a perfect alignment.
On some Hemnes models, these screws are covered by a small cap—you’ll need to remove this first.
I hope this helps! If you can provide specific model names or describe photos, I can offer more targeted advice.

Additionally, my doors didn’t fit well at first, but after systematically adjusting the screws on the hinges step by step, they fit perfectly.
So: just turn the screws a little, close the door, and check again. You can do it!
