Hello everyone, I recently bought several Pax wardrobe systems from IKEA and now face the challenge of adjusting the height of these wardrobes because my ceiling height differs slightly from the standard. My specific question is: How can the height of Pax wardrobes be adjusted to fit optimally into niches or under slightly sloped ceilings? Which parts need to be modified or replaced, and what should be particularly considered to ensure stability and functionality? Are there any official guidelines or personal experiences with shortening cabinet or compartment elements? I am looking forward to your tips and advice.

The back panels in Pax units are usually made of a thin hardboard (MDF or similar), which can easily break or splinter.

This assessment is accurate. When working on the back panel, it is important to consider the fastening points for screws, nails, or staples. These are often pre-drilled or marked. When cutting the panel, these points can accidentally be removed, so new fastening points will be necessary afterwards. For stability, I recommend ensuring that the back panel fits tightly and covers the entire cabinet body as much as possible to prevent twisting or warping.

In practice, I have often adjusted back panels, especially for custom-installed Pax systems. Some practical tips:

- The back panels should not be too short; at least 1–2 cm (0.4–0.8 inches) of the edge must remain so they can be secured in the groove of the carcass.
- It is best to cut the back panel only after all other modifications are completed to ensure a precise fit.
- You can also fix the back panel to the carcass using small metal brackets if the standard fasteners no longer fit due to trimming.
- Any openings or cutouts for cables or ventilation should be planned before trimming.

If the cabinet is placed in a damp environment, use back panels made of moisture-resistant material or seal the edges accordingly after cutting.
