Hello everyone, I’m planning to upgrade my Ikea Pax wardrobe with soft-close drawers and am looking for any helpful tips and experiences. It’s important to me that the upgrade is as straightforward as possible but also works reliably over the long term. Has anyone already installed soft-close mechanisms in existing Pax drawers? Which components are recommended, and are there any special considerations to keep in mind during installation? I’m especially interested in whether the original drawer slides can still be used or if a complete replacement is necessary. Thanks in advance for any useful feedback!

I understand that retrofitting can be stressful for many, especially if you don’t have any carpentry experience. I was also unsure whether I was choosing the right parts. Ultimately, it helped me to carefully double-check all measurements and work slowly, step by step. If you’re unsure, a phone call to a customer advisor at a specialty store can be very helpful, as they are often very patient. And if something doesn’t work perfectly at first, don’t worry – it’s worth it when the drawers close quietly and smoothly.

For me, removing the old side runners and replacing them with suitable soft-close slides from Hettich worked well.

Thanks for the tip, Deandre. I’ve been looking for a good solution throughout the year and will also choose Hettich. One thing I’m still curious about: how do you ensure that the drawers don’t get stuck later on? I’ve heard that soft-close only works if everything is aligned very precisely.
