Hello everyone, I am currently exploring ways to better adapt Ikea Hemnes furniture specifically for smaller spaces. The HEMNES series is relatively large and bulky, which often causes space issues in small apartments. I am particularly interested in design ideas, modifications, or additional solutions that can make the furniture either more space-saving or multifunctional. For example, how cabinets, dressers, or beds from the series can be altered to not only fit better into small rooms but also provide maximum storage without excessively limiting the available floor space. Does anyone have concrete experience or tips on how to cleverly modify HEMNES to create more storage and use the space more efficiently, while still maintaining the classic HEMNES look and stability?

I would recommend using HEMNES furniture that is tall rather than wide for small rooms.Exactly! You can also remove the back panels and add extra shelves on the inside to increase storage space for smaller items!
I also really like adding casters to HEMNES dressers – this adds flexibility and makes it easier to move the furniture depending on how you use the room. Creative solutions make all the difference. 🙂

I’m asking because in smaller bedrooms, I often see difficulties creating combinations between the bed and the dresser. Do any of you have experience adjusting the beds in this series, perhaps with integrated storage or additional elements? That would be very helpful for me.
For beds from the HEMNES series, you can install shallow drawers under the bed frame to make optimal use of the height. Fold-up slatted bed bases are also an option to create storage space underneath.
It is important to keep the furniture color and design consistent, as this prevents the room from feeling cluttered. Minimalist adjustments are usually best for small rooms.

HEMNES dressers can also be partially modified to serve as bedside tables with storage next to the bed.
