Hello everyone,

I am about to move and own several Ikea Brimnes furniture pieces, mainly cabinets and dressers. Since these items are generally made from relatively lightweight materials and can have delicate surfaces, I am concerned about how to best protect them from scratches, dents, or other damage.

My question for the community is: What specific measures, materials, or techniques have you used to protect your BRIMNES furniture optimally during a move? I am especially interested in tips on preparation, proper packing, secure transportation, and any additional protective solutions.

It would be great if you could also share experiences related to the particular characteristics of BRIMNES furniture—such as surface types, fastenings, or special features that should definitely be kept in mind.

Thank you in advance for your support!

I completely understand that furniture like the Brimnes, made of relatively lightweight materials, can cause some unease when it comes to moving. I felt the same way.

What I can additionally recommend, if possible, is to have two people carry the furniture, holding it at sturdy points. Always be careful not to put pressure on thin panels and try to move the furniture calmly and with edge protection through the hallways.

Sometimes it also helps to plan the moving route in the room beforehand. Tight corners or staircases can otherwise lead to surprises that may damage the furniture.

In general, it’s worth coordinating with helpers so everyone knows exactly how delicate the furniture is.

If the transport takes place in several stages or if stairways are narrow, a controlled partial disassembly makes sense

I completely agree – it’s better to spend a bit more time carefully taking the furniture apart than to face nasty surprises like scratches or breaks later on.

In my experience, padding the disassembled parts with newspaper and then packing them into boxes works well. Bubble wrap is great for protecting edges, but make sure not to stick tape directly onto visible surfaces.

Here’s a small tip: sort screws by type and put them in a bag with a little picture showing where they belong. This makes reassembling after the move much less stressful.

Keep calm and good luck!

A small but useful tip from experience: Please remove the plastic glides from the feet of the BRIMNES cabinets before moving and pack them individually. Many people forget this, and due to bumping or shifting during transport, these can easily get lost or break.

Additionally, I recommend securing the furniture primarily in an upright position during transport to prevent warping or damage to the panels.

If you disassemble the furniture, check the screws and nuts for wear after taking it apart—these assembly fittings tend to loosen slightly when removed. It’s better to replace them in time if necessary to ensure stability after the move.
