Hello everyone, I’m looking for a reliable method to securely fasten my Ikea Pax wardrobe to a laminate floor without damaging the floor, while still ensuring maximum stability. Wall anchoring is clear, but I’m concerned about the standing stability on the smooth laminate, especially since the wardrobe is very tall and filled with heavy contents. There are transport locks and wall anchors available, but I would also like to know if special floor fasteners, anti-slip pads, or other solutions really help and which ones are recommended for long-term use. Should I avoid floor fixings altogether and focus only on wall anchoring systems? Are there any experiences with special screws, adhesive techniques, or intermediate layers that protect and stabilize both the laminate and the wardrobe? Looking forward to your opinions and advice!

Does anyone have specific experience with floor rails or similar bases?

I have had good experiences with thin, rubberized anti-slip mats placed between the cabinet feet and the floor. They are very durable, easy to remove, and leave no residue. I would be cautious with floor rails, as they are often screwed firmly to the floor and can cause damage.

Regarding wall fixings: these can be done independently of such bases since they are usually secured to the wall and stabilize the cabinet. Combining both is not problematic as long as the cabinet is safely attached to the wall.

A slightly different perspective: Why all the effort with fastening and protection? Pax is basically a piece of furniture, not a machine gun mount. I think that if the cabinet doors are properly adjusted, the base plate is positioned correctly, and you don’t shake the house upside down, wall mounting is sufficient. Laminate flooring is delicate, and drilling seems excessive to me. The system rarely gains much more stability from it.

If you want to be completely safe, it’s better to add some weight at the bottom, for example a few heavy boxes or sandbags. Other solutions often seem intrusive or risk causing damage.

Your perspective is interesting, but safety standards should not be underestimated. Especially with tall cabinets, children or pets can create hazardous situations if the unit is not secured properly. That’s why manufacturers clearly recommend using wall fixings.

Regarding stability: the weight of the lower drawers does provide some support but does not replace proper anchoring. Non-slip pads and wall anchors are additional measures that enhance safety without damaging laminate flooring.

Therefore, I always recommend combining wall fixings with non-slip pads to ensure stability and protect the floor surface.

In my experience, the best solution for laminate flooring is as follows: secure wall anchors and place anti-slip pads under each corner of the cabinet. Make sure the pads adhere properly to the laminate and do not simply slip off. That’s all you need to prevent tipping or shifting.

Thank you, that’s reassuring—I would prefer not to damage the laminate flooring. Overall, it seems that the best compromise is a combination of traditional wall mounting and well-adhering non-slip pads under the feet.

What do you think about hybrid solutions, such as a wooden frame placed under the cabinet that is also protected with rubber or felt? Does that provide good stability, or is it inconvenient for cleaning and moving? I’m open to further experiences.
