Hello everyone,

I am planning to upgrade my existing Ikea Pax wardrobes with integrated lighting. I’m looking for a solution that can be installed discreetly while still providing good and even illumination inside the wardrobes. It is also important to me that the technology is reliable, easy to operate, and ideally equipped with a motion sensor.

I’m mainly looking for advice on selecting suitable LED strips or other lighting systems, installation ideas, and how to best integrate the power supply into the furniture without affecting the overall appearance or functionality. Does anyone have experience with this and could recommend possible methods or components?

Thanks in advance for your input!

For cable management, I recommend using thin adhesive cable ducts. They are easy to remove and leave minimal marks. Alternatively, small cable clips fixed with nails can be used if you prefer not to use adhesive tapes.

Important: Make sure not to interfere with the cabinet’s drill holes and screws, as that will cause a messy outcome.

I have had good experiences with Osram LED strip sets. They are affordable, come with a remote control, and are available in various lengths.

And if you like motion sensors: check out those from Steinel – they are quite reliable and turn on the light immediately as soon as you open the door. This way, you avoid searching in the dark!

I have also used cable ducts. They stick well and can optionally be removed with silicone.

If you prefer something more minimalist: There are also small battery-operated LED spots available. You simply stick them in, usually with adhesive tape. The downside is battery replacement and often lower brightness compared to permanently installed LEDs.

But if you don’t have a power outlet inside the cabinet, this could be an alternative.

That’s really a great alternative for anyone who doesn’t want to drill holes or deal with messy cables! The only downside is that changing the batteries can be a bit annoying, but hey – if you only need the light when the cabinet is open, the batteries can sometimes last for weeks!

In conclusion, I would say: personally, I really like dimmable LED strips with motion sensors because you get the full convenience package. And honestly – it feels like your Pax gains new superpowers!
