Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into the Ikea Brimnes design, which I like because of its simple lines and practical features. However, I would like to personalize the design a bit, as the standard look seems too plain for me. My question is: How can I modify the Ikea Brimnes design to reflect my personal style and needs without compromising functionality or stability?

I am thinking about possible color changes, additional elements, or decorative adjustments, as well as practical modifications that could make the furniture more attractive or easier to use. Has anyone had experience with such customizations on the Brimnes? I would appreciate any advice, from simple ideas to more complex alterations.

To change the color, you can sand the piece of furniture and repaint or lacquer it.

Self-adhesive films or wallpapers can also help to personalize surfaces.

Replacing handles is an easy and effective way to give it a completely new look.

Practical modifications include adding shelves or additional organizers inside to improve usability.

When asked how to personally customize the Ikea Brimnes design, there are several methodically proven approaches that work both aesthetically and functionally.

- Color modifications: Stripping and repainting with high-quality acrylic or chalk paints increase individuality without compromising the material.
- Handles: Replacing the standard handles with designer or vintage variants is a minimally invasive change with a strong impact.
- Additional elements: Installing LED strips inside or adding decorative cover panels made of wood or metal creates visual highlights.
- Reinforcements: Stability can be improved with additional brackets and screws if modifications are likely to affect it.

It is advisable to check the load capacity and material properties before making any alterations to avoid lasting damage.

Simply swapping handles is also an easy and effective way to instantly give a fresh look.

I find that really interesting as well, especially since it’s a relatively quick method. What type of handles would you recommend for the Brimnes to maintain the Scandinavian style while still adding some personality?

Replacing the standard handles with designer or vintage options is a low-impact modification with a high effect.

Could you please elaborate on which materials or designs work best for this?

Also, I’m curious if anyone has experience using self-adhesive films on Brimnes surfaces, particularly regarding durability and appearance.

Hey, a few months ago I completely upgraded my Brimnes and I can only say: it’s really fun!

- I replaced the handles with matte black metal ones, which instantly gives the whole piece more character without ruining the Scandinavian style.
- I applied self-adhesive films all around in a subtle concrete look; they are very durable and can be removed if needed.
- Inside, I installed LED strips that I can control with a remote – absolutely brilliant for creating atmosphere and better visibility!

My tip: Don’t be afraid to try creative combinations that make the furniture your own. It’s definitely worth it, especially if you, like me, enjoy adding some color or contrast!
