ᐅ Which furniture pieces work well with the Ikea BRIMNES series?

Hello everyone, I’m currently planning to furnish my bedroom with the Ikea Brimnes series and I’m looking for furniture pieces that go well with BRIMNES – both functionally and aesthetically. The BRIMNES furniture is rather simple, with clean lines and usually available in white or black-brown. I would like to know which other furniture collections or individual pieces you would recommend that fit well without disrupting the overall look. Maybe also items that expand storage space but still remain consistent in style, so no completely different designs. Are there any tried-and-tested combinations or practical tips for different interior styles with BRIMNES? Thanks in advance!

A structured approach to finding suitable combinations:

1. First, choose the main furniture pieces (bed, wardrobe) from the same series or in the same color; in this case, Brimnes in white.
2. Secondary furniture, such as nightstands or shelves, can either be BRIMNES elements as well or from series like Malm or Kullen, which are also clear and simple.
3. Pay attention to uniform materials: all furniture should preferably be made of painted wood or laminate so that the surfaces do not differ too much.
4. For accents such as metal or glass, make sure they appear repeatedly in the room to create a cohesive theme.

Common mistakes:
- Mixing different wood tones randomly
- Combining too many styles (e.g., modern and country without consistent elements)

Conclusion: Stick to one color palette, and it works well.

Thank you for the structured overview. That helps to avoid mistakes. What about furniture pieces outside of Ikea? For example, contemporary furniture lines that match the colors of BRIMNES well? Or are most combinations generally limited to Ikea’s own product range to ensure a harmonious look?

A combination with furniture outside of Ikea is definitely possible if you pay close attention to some key factors. Especially with the BRIMNES series, which features a clean, simple design language with matte surfaces and neutral white or dark tones, you should consider the following points:

- Material and color consistency: For example, if you introduce a contemporary dresser made of solid whitewashed wood or with a matte white finish, it can be well integrated with BRIMNES.
- Scale and proportions: The dimensions and proportions should largely match to prevent any furniture pieces from appearing too dominant.
- Minimalism: Since BRIMNES is modern and simple, avoid using Baroque or overly ornate pieces.

Personally, I have had good experiences with white design classics, such as a simple Eames chair or small side tables. Color as a unifying element is important.

If you like, I can also give you tips on how to use lighting and accessories to improve the transition between different furniture pieces.

That is certainly true, but I think that choosing BRIMNES automatically limits you culturally to an IKEA world. The furniture is so distinctive that it makes me wonder why you would want to mix it at all. My suggestion: either go with BRIMNES completely or do something entirely different. Combining often leads to visual fragmentation and ends up looking unfinished.

I personally take a pragmatic approach: it depends on the space and what is currently available at a good price. If it fits, then it fits. There’s no need to stick rigidly to a specific series.

Thank you for your opinions! The topic of combining with non-Ikea furniture is interesting; I think I will give it some more thought. Regarding storage space, I’m specifically looking for tips: BRIMNES already offers quite a bit, but I wanted to know if you are familiar with suitable shelves or sideboards from other ranges that work well as a complement for clothing or accessories? Dimensions of about 80cm (31.5 inches) in width would be ideal.
