Hello everyone, I recently bought an Ikea Platsa shelving unit with doors and I’m not satisfied with how loudly the doors close. I find the noise when shutting disturbing, especially during quiet times. Has anyone had experience with how to make the PLATSA doors close more quietly and softly? I would like to learn about possible technical modifications or alternative installation solutions to reduce the noise or improve the door closure itself. I’m also interested in general tips for noise reduction with these doors. Thanks in advance!
In addition to the previous tips, I would like to add that with Platsa, the door frames and materials are relatively thin. This means that achieving a softer closing by simply retrofitting can be technically limited. One solution I implemented myself was a combination of softer dampers in the corners and fine-tuning the hinges, especially by readjusting the screws. This reduces the closing pressure and softens the door slam.
I agree with the suggestions; soft-close hinges are the most professional solution, but they are usually not designed for PLATSA. Alternatively, some suppliers offer retrofit dampers that can be glued to the edge to soften the closing action. Sometimes, a combination of both is even more effective: optimized hinges plus dampers. In this case, special attention should be paid to the dimensions and load capacity.
