Hello everyone, I recently bought the Ikea Platsa wardrobe and I’m using the matching drawers. I noticed that opening and closing the drawers is quite loud and rattling, especially in the last position when they’re fully closed. I would like to make the drawers quieter, particularly the noise when pushing them shut. Does anyone have experience or tips on how to reduce the noise of the Ikea PLATSA drawers? I’ve already considered rail or damper solutions but wanted to ask if there might be simple tricks or proven methods to reduce the noise without making major structural changes.

Update from my side: Yesterday, I thoroughly cleaned the drawer slides and applied a thin layer of silicone spray. Additionally, I attached felt strips to the inside of the cabinet body, right at the edge where the drawer front contacts it. This definitely helps a lot. The noise is noticeably reduced, but sometimes there is still a slight cracking sound when closing. I am considering adding small rubber bumpers at the back of the drawer as well. Has anyone tried this, and which rubber bumpers would you recommend?

That makes sense. It’s best to use flat, self-adhesive silicone or rubber bumpers, which you can find at a hardware store. They are flexible enough to absorb impact without bouncing back too much or preventing the drawer from closing properly.

Rubber buffers are very helpful, especially when placed at the rear lower edge of the drawer. They effectively cushion the impact when it closes and locks into place.

To add a bit of humor to this: instead of drawers that sound like a rock band, you can use felt and rubber to almost create a still life 😊. Sure, it takes some effort, but the result is so relaxing when those banging noises no longer get on your nerves.

If you want to perfect it further: there are also special drawer dampers used in furniture construction. However, these are a bit more complex to install. For Ikea Platsa, clean rails, silicone spray, felt strips at contact points, and rubber bumpers behind the drawers are usually sufficient.

The final adjustment is often a matter of trial and error. Every drawer and cabinet has minor differences. Identify the exact spot where the noise occurs and focus your efforts there. This way, you can gradually work toward a quieter drawer mechanism.
