Hello everyone, I currently have several Ikea Pax wardrobes in my bedroom and am considering how to expand them as flexibly and modularly as possible. My goal is to easily increase or adjust the existing storage space when needed—without having to dismantle the entire wardrobe each time or require a lot of tools.

I am particularly interested in tips on combining different elements, such as additional interior fittings, extension modules, or clever mounting options that would allow me to integrate new wardrobe doors or add various other configurations as needed.

Has anyone had experience expanding Pax wardrobes in a way that keeps them flexible for future changes, for example, if household needs evolve? Are there any recommended products or tricks to modularly extend the system without compromising stability or appearance? I would appreciate practical advice and your personal experiences!

Are expansions with narrower modules (50 or 75cm (20 or 30 inches) wide) an option, or would that rather complicate your system?

Good question – I would say narrower modules are generally possible and often practical to increase flexibility. A 50cm (20 inch) module can be used as an addition when space is limited or when you want finer divisions. The following points should be considered:

- Don’t forget uniform depth, otherwise the front appearance won’t match.
- Different widths can be visually challenging if not combined thoughtfully (for example, placing narrow modules between wider ones).
- Stability is maintained if you connect the modules together. Ikea provides suitable fasteners for this. Additionally, it’s advisable to secure the entire structure to the wall.

Would you recommend buying new modules or rather working with the existing ones and only making internal adjustments?

For maximum flexibility, I actually recommend both: On the one hand, you can quickly and easily adjust the interior with features like adjustable shelves, drawers, and pull-outs without much installation effort. On the other hand, if needed, you can add new modules that can be seamlessly integrated into the existing structure using connectors and standardized dimensions. This allows you to reconfigure the wardrobe repeatedly, which is especially helpful when requirements change.

A final tip: If you’re planning changes to the doors (e.g., open sections), check if sliding doors or semi-open modules might be useful, which you can later equip with doors or covers. This keeps the system highly flexible.

How large are your planned expansions? And do you already have accessories like internal drawers or baskets in mind?
