Hello everyone,
Some time ago, I got an Ikea Besta cabinet with the standard doors and drawer fronts. Unfortunately, the doors no longer fit perfectly; they are slightly warped or hang a bit crooked, and the drawers don’t slide completely smoothly anymore. I am now looking for tips on how to easily and reliably adjust the doors and drawers of this series without having to remove them entirely.
I know Ikea often uses small adjustment screws directly on the hinges or drawer slides, but I’m especially interested in which screws on the Besta doors allow horizontal, vertical, or depth adjustments, and if there are any tricks to align the fronts precisely.
Has anyone had experience with fine-tuning so that the doors close flush and parallel, and the drawers run exactly right? I would appreciate concrete methods, ideally with a brief note on how to readjust if, for example, the fronts lean more at the top or bottom or don’t close properly.
Thanks in advance for helpful responses!

For the drawers, you should check the drawer slides and, if necessary, align the guides using the adjustable screws. If everything is loosely connected, simply fine-tune it with a screwdriver.

I know that Ikea often uses small adjustment screws directly on the hinges or drawer runners, but I am especially interested in which screws on the BESTA doors allow for horizontal, vertical, or depth adjustmentsHello!
I’m happy to explain this in more detail: Ikea BESTA doors are equipped with clip hinges that offer three adjustment options:
- Height adjustment is done by loosening and tightening the upper or lower screw on the hinge (usually positioned lengthwise).
- Horizontal (side-to-side) adjustment is achieved via a small screw on the hinge arm – this lets you move the door left or right.
- Depth adjustment (whether the door sits closer to or further away from the cabinet frame) works through a small screw that regulates the distance to the cabinet side panel.
For the drawers, everything operates via the runners. Sometimes they can be slightly shifted, and with fine tuning, you can adjust the roller mechanism so the drawer opens and closes smoothly.
My advice: Make only small adjustments at a time and check the effect between each step. Door adjustments are very sensitive. If doors become misaligned or jam, this is usually related to height or side adjustments.
Good luck!

It is best to make only minimal adjustments at a time and regularly check the effect.Exactly! When adjusting the Ikea BESTA doors and drawers, the key word is patience 😊
I usually set aside some time and have a screwdriver ready, so fine-tuning feels almost like a little DIY session. It’s also a good idea to fully open the doors while turning the screws — often the adjustments become much easier that way.
If the drawers are a bit stiff, you can apply a little lubricant (e.g., wax or silicone) to the runners — this helps keep the smooth operation enjoyable for a long time.
Once everything fits perfectly, the result is like a brand-new piece of furniture. Enjoy the fine-tuning!
