Azizulla4213 Sep 2021 18:02Hello everyone, I have a question regarding the assembly of the Billy shelves from IKEA. Is there a way to assemble these shelves completely without any tools? I want to avoid using screwdrivers or drills because I either do not have tools available or want to keep the assembly as simple and flexible as possible. Does anyone have experience or tips on how to securely and stably set up the Billy shelf without using conventional tools? I look forward to your suggestions and ideas!

Hello Azizulla42, basically, Billy shelves are designed for simple assembly using screws and wall plugs. If you don’t want to use tools, you could try to carefully fix the connections by hand – but this is only somewhat stable. One possible idea would be to use clamp or snap-fit connections, which are sometimes available for shelves, but IKEA does not offer these standard with Billy. Alternatively, you could borrow a battery-powered cordless screwdriver, which is very easy to handle and does not require much effort.
That’s great that you want to try it without tools! 🙂 I would recommend approaching it with some creativity – some people manage to simply slide the shelves in and hook them securely. It might not hold forever, but as a temporary solution, it works really well :-) Don’t get discouraged!

Karsten4513 Sep 2021 19:45Hey Azizulla42, I know the feeling! Sometimes you just want to set up the shelf quickly without much screwing. Recently, I assembled a Billy shelf almost entirely by slotting the parts together and temporarily secured the edges with tape. Not very neat, but functional for a short time. A bit of improvisation can work wonders 😉 But of course, this is not a permanent solution, as stability suffers.
