Hello!
We are currently facing the difficult decision of how to orient our house. We now have two preferred options (see images).
The plot is a sloped site with a slight downhill gradient towards the south.
On the opposite side of the street, there are further building plots both to the south and to the west.
For me, option 1 with the terrace facing south is more attractive (among other things because of the view). However, I wonder if the hidden entrance on the north side and the "long" path to reach it might be somewhat unusual.
I would really appreciate opinions and advice.
Best regards

Option 1

Option 2

For me, the entrance belongs in the "entry area" – clearly visible from the front – although many people don't care.
Any standard floor plan can position its terrace according to the sun, also considering the comfort aspect of the plot.
If the idea is missing or you can’t do it yourself: change the architect or consult a landscape gardener later.
Why don't you place the access on the west side and the terrace on the south?

Well, having the terrace and garden facing south with the entrance on the north side is great, what could be better? You can also easily access it from the carport... I would build it that way.

For me, the entrance would be too hidden.

Is the north side at least bright? I know some entrances on the north side that are quite dark and covered with moss, not very nice.

Hello,

I would definitely choose option 1 with the south-facing terrace.

Just think about how much of your plot you would cover with paving in option 2 because of the driveway... I wouldn’t want to have to shovel snow there in winter...

Personally, I would choose option 1. With the second option, the garden would feel too fragmented.
This way it’s more organized, and you need fewer paving stones to provide the driveway.
