I am currently considering purchasing a planned semi-detached house with a plot of land (I have already written about this in another topic here). My question and concern is the following: it is a sloped plot (slight incline), so part of the basement can be used as living space facing west, which I really like. However, the garden at the back faces east. That means it is level but against the slope, so this part will be flattened. Now my question: does anyone have experience with an east-facing garden? It would still get light from the south (from the side). I am a bit worried it might be quite dark. Since I have never had an east-facing garden before but almost always a south-facing one, which was practically always too hot, I wanted to ask for your opinions. Thank you very much!
Best regards,

I have some concerns that it might be too dark. What exactly do you mean by dark? The garden? The terrace? The house? The basement? Nighttime? Please share the floor plan and site plan including the surroundings, then it will be easier to comment.
They can also be self-drawn.
The same applies to buying as to building:

We have a garden facing east, and I love it. Especially in recent summers, it has been invaluable that part of it is shaded in the afternoon.

It’s nicer than facing south, which is more common nowadays. On weekends, it’s great to have breakfast in the rising sun, and from midday, when the sun is strong, there’s no need for mandatory shading like on a south-facing plot.
My new house also faces east – the sun hits the terrace only around noon and stays at the far end of the property until the afternoon.
