Hello, our construction started last week.
Have you planned any interesting features that are cost-effective?
For example, we have:
a wood-burning fireplace with water heating
a peephole with a monitor at the front door
bathroom and guest toilet doors without keys, but with this turn-lock
a built-in shelf in the shower
a retractable power strip in the kitchen
Do you have any other suggestions?

I want to emphasize that some of the items mentioned here are anything but inexpensive.Maybe this thread should be renamed to costly highlights

toxicmolotof26 Jun 2015 08:25Guys... many things are possible... but what is cost-effective, as the original poster asks? So far, the only options I’ve noticed from those mentioned are:
Bathroom door lock with a turn knob (+15 Euro)
Socket in the window reveal (+30-50 Euro)
Outdoor socket (+30-50 Euro)
Everything else quickly costs over 100 Euro or even an additional zero more.

Sorry... I completely overlooked the cost-effective option.
The special glazing was less expensive than expected: 250€

We have:
- Walk-in shower with bench, shelf, and rain showerhead (~$800)
- LED spotlights in the shower (~$215)
- Built-in radio in the bathroom (~$220)
- Second bathroom
- Various additional sockets, switches, LAN connections, etc. (~$1,500)
- More expensive clinker bricks with differently colored joints (~$1,500)
- Satellite system (~$1,000)
- More expensive wood-look tiles with brown grout, as the original ones were no longer available (~$1,000)
- Motorized external roller shutters (~$4,600)
- Air-to-water heat pump with controlled heat recovery instead of a gas heating system (~$5,000)
- Underground cable for a future carport (~$200)
- Lock with ventilation gap for the front door (~$160)
Otherwise, I can't think of anything else at the moment, but I’m sure I’ve forgotten one thing or another. Yes, yes, it all adds up somehow. After all, when building your own home, you don’t want to make too many compromises and you want it to be better than before. Somehow, every extra dollar just makes you want to cry.
