Hello everyone,

we are currently planning to build our house and are considering including a large garage.

The question is: about $20,000 for a 6x6 meter (20x20 foot) garage or about $23,000 for a 6x7 meter (20x23 foot) garage? What experiences have you had with your garages?

1 station wagon
1 small or mid-size car
2 sets of tires
1 lawn mower
3 trash bins
2 bicycles
and all the other stuff that tends to accumulate

However, we also have a basement, so the garage shouldn’t turn into a storage for trash bins.

What do you think? Is a 6x6 meter (20x20 foot) garage enough? Opinions seem to vary...

As I said, we are building with a basement, so much of it probably goes down into the basement.
We have a basement as well, but winter tires, lawn mowers, bicycles, and wheelbarrows don't belong there – simply too many stairs.

So, personally, I find a garage for regular cars quite pointless. I don’t know anyone who, where possible, doesn’t just park in front of the house or on the street because it’s faster.
Also, I am surprised by how many people cover the entire footprint of a proper single-family house with impermeable surfaces just to store cars, skis, and camping tents.
But I guess I’m an outsider here. I really find it astonishing how much space is used for this.
Maybe off-topic.

Then we definitely need to meet. I would be the first one!

Then you must be driving a classic car or something like that.

Nope, we have two sturdy French cars – and just a nice garage ...

No martens, no dirt when it rains, no hail, no ice scraping in winter, and no theft. I would NEVER park my cars outside.
