ᐅ Front door made of natural oak?

Hello everyone,

we are currently in the process of choosing a front door design and would appreciate some independent opinions from you. Our house is being built in the Münsterland country house style, so basically along these lines:

Our building only has gable ends facing outward, with a larger roof overhang, copper elements, and a dark roof. The entrance area looks similar to the picture above.

Would a natural oak front door fit this style—taking inspiration from the boards in the gable, which are located above our entrance? We are planning to have white windows with muntins (grilles), so a white front door like this one (only with narrower side panels) is also under consideration:

White double door with arched window above, brick wall, planter, heart decoration in windows.

For our oak option, you can imagine the above door in natural oak, roughly this color:

Besides the question of the exterior look, I’m also curious whether having an oak plank floor inside leading up to the door would work, or if that would be too much oak visually. Alternatively, should we paint the interior door white? Or maybe use tiles in the hallway instead...

So many questions... please share your thoughts.

Those who like it, but whether your first-mentioned features are eye-catchers for others is questionable. I would definitely avoid the latter!!!

Quite clearly: dark brick cladding – then light window frames and doors (white or similar),
light brick cladding – then darker window frames and doors are possible. The roof is too far away.
If the window color is fixed, then the door color is also fixed; otherwise, it becomes too colorful.

The oak door would evoke a similar personal feeling for me; sorry. Apart from the fact that I already find it enough to have to refinish the garden furniture every year without also having to deal with the front door

Take a look at the attachment, where you’ll find a visual example of a comparable house; an oak door definitely wouldn’t have suited it.

Personally, I wouldn’t choose oak; white would also be my preference.

For the interior entrance area, I recommend tiles, possibly with a wood-look finish.

Thank you first of all for your input – your recommendations clearly lean toward white.

Given that condition, the other extreme: if the door is going to be white anyway, could you consider using a uPVC door for a house like this? Nowadays, they don’t look nearly as bad as they used to, judging by some examples I’ve seen in Google image searches...
Or is that still a no-go, at least for this style?

We will most likely choose an oak door here, even though this goes against the general recommendations...
If you want to keep the natural color, you have to expect a patina – after about 15 years, it will look like this:

It’s a matter of personal taste – I can also understand if it’s not for everyone. I still find the door stylish even aged.
