Hello everyone,

we are currently in the process of choosing a front door design and would appreciate some independent opinions from you. Our house is being built in the Münsterland country house style, so basically along these lines:

Our building only has gable ends facing outward, with a larger roof overhang, copper elements, and a dark roof. The entrance area looks similar to the picture above.

Would a natural oak front door fit this style—taking inspiration from the boards in the gable, which are located above our entrance? We are planning to have white windows with muntins (grilles), so a white front door like this one (only with narrower side panels) is also under consideration:

White double door with arched window above, brick wall, planter, heart decoration in windows.

For our oak option, you can imagine the above door in natural oak, roughly this color:

Interior wooden door with decorative panels and metal handle

Besides the question of the exterior look, I’m also curious whether having an oak plank floor inside leading up to the door would work, or if that would be too much oak visually. Alternatively, should we paint the interior door white? Or maybe use tiles in the hallway instead...

So many questions... please share your thoughts.

I would choose the white option; it becomes a striking feature rather than just "boring" natural tones blending together.

I would also choose white, as the entrance should be noticeable and inviting. Oak would be too subtle and unobtrusive for my taste.

Well, eye-catcher... there are already plans for pilasters and cornices in the masonry, carpenter-style decorations, and capitals with decorative profiles around the windows. All these purely decorative elements shouldn’t collectively overwhelm or cause a negative reaction for the viewer… which is why we’ve basically ruled out adding another color. White is still in consideration because of the windows, and oak because of the gable cladding.

Maybe combine a white frame with oak? Or frame the glass areas in white?
