What is the most important/basic question about the floor plan summarized in 130 characters?
- Where could it still be optimized? Would you recommend different window dimensions or sill heights?
- What do you think is poor or what would you do differently?
- A partition wall will be added in the walk-in closet. That would theoretically allow watching TV from the bed. I am considering a lightweight wall. I plan to place a 211cm (83 inches) Pax combination wardrobe in the closet. The closet is planned with a raw width of 218cm (86 inches). Do you think 218cm is enough for the Pax once the walls are plastered, or how wide should the rough dimensions preferably be?
- Is the hallway on the ground floor too narrow?
- Would you raise the ground level? The house would be 40cm (16 inches) below street level. If I build a terrace into the garden, it would be about 1m (3 ft) difference. You could raise only the house level, resulting in approximately 1.6m (5 ft) difference between terrace and garden. I don’t know anyone living below street level. Raising the garden would probably not be allowed without permits, and affected neighbors likely wouldn’t agree. On the sides of the house adjacent to neighbors, raising is permitted only up to certain limits. I am overwhelmed with the decision.
- Do you have any ideas for arranging the sofa differently and placing the TV sensibly? My husband doesn’t want the sofa back facing a window. I still need to get used to placing the sofa in the middle of the room.
- Is the kitchen size sufficient for a nice kitchen with an island?

Thank you @Tarnari and @Smialbuddler for your contributions. I appreciate you sharing your perspectives with me.
I’m genuinely afraid of making a major mistake in the design because I might have overlooked something, as I have no experience with the whole building plan process. That’s why I absorbed so many responses here and quickly got unsettled. Like a leaf in the wind, I kept changing my mind. We even got a bit lost along the way. My gut feeling was never quite right.
And as has been pointed out here, it took us almost 135 pages to almost get back to the version from #1. But for me, it’s an optimized version that I feel very comfortable with. For instance, I’m very happy with the changes made to the windows.
I’m going to finalize the floor plan now, and it feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
I really struggle with making decisions and tend to be a perfectionist. Unfortunately, before starting the house planning, I had made a wrong decision in another part of my life, which made me very afraid of making another mistake. But now it feels right for me. I think there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with this floor plan, and I will be happy with it.
Thank you for your kind posts. I’m genuinely looking forward to the kitchen planning now, and I hope I’ll feel more confident about it. You’ve got this!
For example, we deliberately did not share any plans here because we knew they would be heavily criticized. We are simply confident that it suits us. Who else could really judge that? What we do is focus on asking detailed questions. In the end, we have to feel comfortable with it ourselves.

My husband didn’t want to block a window with the sofa, so it’s fixed glazing. Isn’t fixed glazing still a window? Whether it has a handle or not, it’s still blocked anyway...

Do you all have KNX or some kind of wireless system here in this thread? We installed wireless shutter switches on the ground floor, and what can I say... after six months, I have never used them. It all sounds great in theory, but in the end, we just go to the switch and press it. And we have never had a situation where we needed to "lower them all at once."
You really have to consider how much of this you actually need.

I rely on window cleaners with telescopic poles. I hope they have poles that long. Are they over 5 m (16 ft) long? Maybe someone here knows.
Yes, they exist. I believe it’s called the osmosis method.
