Hello!
We want to install a sun sail on our terrace. It should be 4 x 4 meters (13 x 13 feet) in size.
Special feature #1: I absolutely do not want to drill into the wall. Why? I don’t want anything to go wrong, or in a few years, when the sail needs to be replaced, to have to make new holes because the new sail is a different size, and so on. Or that the anchors might not hold over time... So the sail should be attached to the soffits of the roof, and therefore to the rafters.
Special feature #2: we have plastic soffits (standard with Viebrockhaus). Because of this, you can’t directly see where the rafters run. A fitter already came by, the materials were ready, and he said it was impossible. He removed a roof tile and looked from above, and explained something unclear to me, but in the end, it’s supposedly not doable. I asked our site manager, who claimed it is possible, just a bit more complicated; which is why some give up on the fabric.
Question: Has anyone done this before? Do you perhaps have the contact details of a fitter who has done this in the Lüneburg – Hamburg area?
Alternatively, we could buy a gazebo, but we find a sun sail generally more attractive and practical.
Thanks for your help!

Hello TS,
I am cautious about attaching a corner of a sunshade sail directly to a rafter; it is better to connect all involved rafters using a support batten.
Attaching it to the masonry is very straightforward and can be easily done using adhesive anchors.
Expert regards, Matthias

Hi Galaxie,
we would also like to have a sun sail (also waterproof) on our evening terrace. Can you recommend a company for purchase and installation?
Best wishes from Hamburg RissenHi,
no, unfortunately I can’t recommend a company yet. We received a quote from a company, but at around 4,300 euros it was too expensive for us.
