I’m starting to really lose my patience, so I’d like to address two points that are close to my heart:
- This community is called "IKEA Fans" – so why do some people come here just to complain pointlessly and then act surprised when the community defends IKEA?
Do the same people get upset on MacTalk just because it’s about computers, or in a VW community because it’s about cars?
I don’t understand. Please stay elsewhere if that’s your attitude.
- It’s obvious there are many enthusiastic IKEA fans here, and even some employees who voluntarily try to help others and offer advice in their free time.
These people definitely don’t deserve the attitude of some users here.
If you constantly just shout “this is nonsense” or “IKEA is stupid because...” mindlessly and without reason, you shouldn’t be surprised when you get strong pushback. For example, I admire Nayla Mav who still shows remarkable calm and self-discipline even with the biggest idiots and trolls. But I also think that many people can’t be reached this way or made to learn anything.
Some people should reflect on why they are here, what they want from this forum, and how they express themselves toward the many who volunteer their time and enjoy giving tips and support.
I hope, IKEANER, that it is in your interest that I have added this here regarding the topic

Maverick185414 Sep 2012 11:40Hello ikeaner,
I understand that you feel this way in some areas. If I were in your position, I would probably see it similarly. Since I’m also active in several other communities where similar things happen, I can relate to how it feels.
On the other hand, a community is always about exchange, and there will naturally be people who express dissatisfaction. It goes without saying that this should be done objectively and not with an attitude like “this is all nonsense.” In this regard, my choice of words with “I feel fooled/duped” may not have been entirely appropriate, and I apologize for that. However, this never (!) referred to a) forum members here or b) any specific IKEA employee, but rather to IKEA’s business practices. For me, it is not contradictory to like and buy the products while still not fully agreeing with the company’s approach. I’m here because I like IKEA products and enjoy discussing them, and this works great here. I have already received a lot of help and enjoy coming back here regularly—as I do to IKEA itself.
If you, ikeaner, felt personally attacked, that was not my intention. If you happen to be at building 164, we could meet for a coffee in the restaurant sometime.
Best regards,
Christian

... a community is always about exchange, and naturally, people will speak up when something does not meet their expectations. It goes without saying that this should be done objectively [...] For me, it is not contradictory to like and buy the products while still not agreeing with everything. I am here because I like IKEA products and want to discuss themI can fully agree with this, especially since critical voices can also highlight opportunities for improvement. That basically says it all, especially considering this choice of words:
[...] even with the biggest fool and lout [...] N
Nayla_106814 Sep 2012 16:32First of all, thanks to Maverick for putting an end to the nonsense and thanks to Ikeaner for finding the right words. I’m only speaking up here again because I was asked to.
It’s really unfortunate how discussions can derail, and even more regrettable that some people are never satisfied. You can explain, turn things around, and offer alternatives—it simply isn’t enough. No, it has to keep getting hit on.
How you think and how you behave here in the forum, Pari, is reflected in the parts you quoted from Ikea-ner’s post. Especially the “idiots – louts” part clearly struck a nerve with you. It’s interesting that you take that personally and react immediately. And what do you say about the rest of the post? Hmm...
To pick up Ikeaner’s words once more, we are here in an “Ikea fans” forum. It is not about Ikea as a company, but about private people who like Ikea and/or work there and offer their help and experience in their free time to solve problems. Of course, this forum is also a place for discussion, and criticism is explicitly welcome! However, we’re talking about constructive criticism, not pointless whining and nagging. Every time I wonder what the goal of that is?
So, Pari, you are welcome here as long as you reconsider the way you write. If you still think you did everything right and want to keep stirring up conflicts and trouble, then please find another platform—unfortunately, this one is not the right fit for you.
And to bring this to a close: I enjoy being here and helping out, and I’m very glad when someone says thank you because they were helped. I also appreciate it when I receive help or get information I didn’t know before. However, if more and more members turn up who are uncompromising and only happy when situations escalate, this forum will soon become very, very lonely. Thank goodness we are only talking about a small portion of members who behave like that and usually disappear again as quickly as they came.
Therefore, my tried and true sign-off: NfU

Dear Nayla,
Since you addressed me directly, I would like to say a few words. It was never my intention to cause conflict or create trouble.
I like Ikea; many of my furniture pieces are from there, which is why I also wanted to buy my kitchen from them. I definitely consider myself a fan, and especially as a fan, it should be possible to express when something is unsatisfactory or feels less than ideal. Who else should you discuss it with if not other fans?
I didn’t find the points I criticized pointless at all. Don’t worry, I don’t want to reopen that discussion.
Just this much: I admit without hesitation that things on my side got a bit out of hand last night:
Ikea fans saying, "Only you would believe that!" in the context of the fact that a salesperson had told me just last week that the fronts can be replaced felt like a provocation. It came across as, "We know better, but we won’t tell you." To be clear, I do NOT want to imply that the salesperson I spoke to actually has any information.
Because buying a kitchen is an emotional thing for anyone—lots of planning, browsing catalogs, etc.—my response was “stronger” than appropriate. I apologize for that.
But I would like to ask you to try to see it from the “other side” as well: given the previous posts mentioning photos seen, item numbers, and “I’ve already said too much,” it wasn’t unreasonable to interpret the “only you believe that” comment as implying that internally everyone already has the information, and there’s some frustration about that.
Ultimately—to close this topic—I will do exactly what you recommended: wait until there is more reliable information.
Regarding the expressions I quoted from Ikea fans: they neither hurt me deeply nor did I feel personally addressed. I only wanted to express that I don’t think such language is appropriate for how we interact in a forum. I don’t deny having read posts here where I found the criticism unclear or the tone inappropriate. But responding with strong language is not something I consider helpful.
With that said, no hard feelings and have a great start to the weekend!

IKEA-Profi15 Sep 2012 00:12 Ikea-ners "You’re the only one who believes that!" in the context of the fact that just last week a salesperson was enthusiastically explaining to me that the fronts can be replaced" came across as a provocation to me. Like saying, "We know better, but we won’t tell you." ...by the way, you completely misunderstood my post!
