Hello everyone,

we are currently looking for a custom-made shower enclosure. Now I have the difficult choice among countless glass options. In addition, there is the option to choose a sealant. A somewhat cheaper one with a 3-year warranty and a slightly more expensive one with a 5-year warranty. Generally, this adds a surcharge of about 30-40%, so I’m wondering how worthwhile that is.

Our water is softened, and we already squeegee the shower after each use. Also, there is the option to impregnate the shower yourself, but that probably doesn’t last very long. And honestly, you usually only do that once and then eventually you stop caring...

So my question is, does anyone have experience with “professional” sealants? Are they worth the money?

Thanks and best regards,
Christian

I know the difference from two showers. One sealed about 15 years ago and one today (the shower is 1/2 year old). I skip the sealant, squeegee the shower, and clean it, for example, with vinegar cleaner.

Thank you for your information. Honestly, given the additional cost, I would have expected enthusiastic responses to convince me. So it will be a shower without sealing after all. Thank you.

I'm interested as well. I just received a quote. The cheaper vaporized sealing costs an additional 60€ (about $66), while the expensive one is 400€ (about $440). 60€ (about $66) is worth considering, but the question is how effective it is. 400€ (about $440) seems quite steep.

My experience also tells me that these have no long-term effect and are more like a money-making scheme, similar to those pointless coatings at car washes that wash off after the next rain.

Car wax twice a year. Use pure wax without abrasives or polishers. That’s all there is to it.
