Hello everyone,
We are about to start the exterior plastering soon. We have a solid brick wall with a thickness of 36.5 cm (14.4 inches). I would like to gather some information in advance about
- the different types of plaster available
- how many layers are needed (base coat + top coat + paint, or more?)
- your experiences with them, and
- the advantages and disadvantages of each type.
I know there is a fine scratched plaster that is quite expensive but also very durable. There also seem to be mineral-based plasters and ones that contain more synthetic materials. Should the plaster be tinted right away, or is it better to paint it after the plastering is finished?
We have an appointment with the plasterer soon, who will give us his recommendation, but it’s better to have some prior knowledge.
Thanks in advance!

But make sure to ask a plasterer, not a painter!

Thanks, Sebastian. Do you have that on your place? And what kind of prices per square meter should one expect?
Could it be painted over if you want to change the house color at some point?
With us, the plastering would be done by the plasterers, not the painters, or is it the same in your area?

We had quotes between 6,000 and 10,000 for 75 m² (about 800 ft²), but that included scaffolding, insulation, etc. – and probably also a minimum quantity, since it wasn’t much for us.
You can choose the color and shimmer effect beforehand, but afterwards it can’t be painted over like that... You would also ruin the sparkle effect (if that’s even possible).
