Hello, during the rough construction phase of our condominium bathroom, we swapped the toilet and shower locations. Now the walk-in shower base, which is 1x1m (3-1/4 x 3-1/4 ft), is 3–5 cm (1–2 inches) too small. The tiler simply built a small ledge at the bottom, as shown in the pictures. However, I’m not quite comfortable with it and somehow feel it looks a bit odd (maybe I’m too picky and it will look fine once the grout is applied). The problem is that the wall must stay because the riser shaft is there. The aluminum strips are for LED strips, so a half-height ledge isn’t an option either. To cover it up, I thought about attaching the folding glass door to the side. Are there any other ways to hide this, or am I overreacting?

In hindsight, the shower could also have been tiled instead, but such a shallow shower base definitely has a significant advantage when it comes to cleaning.

What do you think? Am I exaggerating?

Shower under construction: beige tiles, white shower base, yellow drain cover, black jacket.

Shower enclosure with light wall tiles, two water connections (red/blue) on the wall.

Corner shower with beige tiles, metal profile in the corner, and white shower floor.

You can cover that up with a whole family's worth of shower gels and shampoos 😉

No, seriously: the hairdresser is right, after grouting it looks normal.

What confuses me is the front drain. With a shallow shower tray and a somewhat stronger flow, won’t the water run out of the shower and onto the floor?

The plumber should have already taken care of that... I hope so. Thanks for the feedback, that reassures me 😀. Sometimes you really get hung up on little details.

He won't be standing in your water later on.

You can see that.

The other way around, my LED strips would get flooded or at least sprayed quite a bit in case of overflow. But I will read up on what the standard practice is. A glass shower enclosure will still be added. Thanks for the tip. I’m curious to see how it will look finished and whether the shelf will look sloppy.
