Hello everyone,

We have received a quote from an electrician (a friend from our personal circle). However, we are a bit unsure about the costs and whether this is a “normal” price. It concerns a new installation in an existing building of about 150 sqm (1,615 sq ft) near Düsseldorf.

I’m particularly interested in items such as power outlets, light switches, and network sockets. It is a wooden house with installation layers and a new floor structure, so no chasing in the walls.

All Gira standard and including wiring:
Per power outlet: €50
Per switch: €55
Per two-way switch: €90
Per CAT 2-gang outlet: €100
Per thermostat for underfloor heating: €120
Distribution board: €2,000
Patch panel with connection: €450

At the moment, it is quite difficult to get quotes and find electricians who also have time, but I would request more offers if you think this is clearly overpriced.

Thank you!

Elis basically offers one, two, or three-star electrical systems. The main difference is the number of sockets and the distribution board. We have one that can be expanded to include circuit breakers for the heat pump, photovoltaic system, and wallbox. This saved us from having an additional smaller panel. For a single-family home, 300 meters (984 feet) of cable is a common standard, with 200 meters (656 feet) for LAN. Additional new wiring was installed for the satellite system. The quotes we received ranged from €15,000 to €22,000 gross. You initially get a full quotation and then remove positions you don’t need. Our electrician, who ultimately did the job, gave a fixed price that included around 100 outlets. Whether there were 10 more or less didn’t make a difference. Note: In some areas, chasing into the wall was necessary because we didn’t have conduits everywhere, and I live in Cologne.

It’s doubtful that all electricians work this way. Having some extra space in the electrical panel should be standard practice anyway; you don’t fill a brand-new switchboard all the way to the top.

Here, it’s quite clear that the electrician provided the unit prices first, and then during the walkthrough, you decide what you want. So it’s not like “I’m running 300 meters (980 feet) of cable, figure out where it should go”…

300 meters (984 feet) is the standard for a single-family house. Three electricians independently said and offered that. Or do you think they measure it according to where the outlets are supposed to go? 🙄

Attached is a detailed price example from spring 2023 in Baden-Württemberg. Electricians of the general contractor. So these are rather "take it or leave it" prices. In case it is helpful for someone.
Preisbeispiel Tabelle: Artikel inkl. Preise (Schukosteckdose, Brennstelle, Netzwerkkabel).

Gira is not simply Gira.
We mostly use the System 55 (which is affordable), except where color options are desired. Then the unit prices can quickly double. Or if you choose digital room thermostats, and so on.
Ask about IT hardware to see if you can provide it yourself. Our electrician charges high markups there. For example, a Fritz!Box 7530 was listed in the quote for €169 net. You can often get it free with new contracts or upgrades.

Our total installation cost comes to nearly €30,000 gross (including wallbox and satellite), and we did not skimp on sockets or LAN outlets. Except for the distribution board and basement room, everything is flush-mounted in brick walls. I believe there were 168 Kaiser flush-mounted boxes on the invoice.
