Hello

I am getting a Tesla Model 3.

Which wall box would you recommend?

The wall box would be mounted outdoors at the parking space (no garage, no carport).

I have the following questions:

Should I choose a wall box with a fixed cable or one with a socket (but with a lockable cable)?

Should I choose a wall box with up to 22 kW or just 11 kW?

What additional features should a wall box offer?

The wall box must have RFID security (it will be outdoors and accessible to everyone) and must include all safety mechanisms, such as DC fault protection.

Can you possibly recommend a wall box?

Three weeks ago, I had an ABL eMH1 wallbox installed.

It was the ADAC test winner and, due to KfW funding, limited to 11 kW (900 euros funding is not available for 22 kW) – but that still allows for roughly 70 km (43 miles) of range per hour of charging. Or 8 hours to fully charge.

The unit is secured with a key switch, has an integrated residual current device (RCD), and the circuit breaker panel already included a dedicated RCD for the cable. The protection rating is IP54, so it is suitable for outdoor installation.
There are also third-party metal canopies available that can be mounted above it, offering some additional protection for the wallbox.

Thank you, I have already seen the RCD but unfortunately it doesn’t have RFID.

At the moment, I’m undecided between the easee home and the evbox elvi.

What do you think, are you worried about vandalism, such as someone cutting the cable or damaging the charging station?

I just checked it out. Delivery times on five different sites are all 30 weeks or more :-)

What do you think about the easee home wall box? It is often highlighted as the best value for money.

Ok, but what do you need RFID for? Multiple users with separate billing? Or just access control—for the latter, the lock alone is usually sufficient.

There are also boxes with separate cables. Damage? That’s an issue with any box, it depends on your environment. For us, I considered the lock more as a necessity because of playing children and similar reasons—the charging point is located on a private road/accessway.
