Hello everyone,

I recently bought a KALLAX shelf from IKEA and am wondering if any of you have experience with antistatic sprays on this material. Specifically, I am interested in whether such sprays actually help reduce dust on the surfaces without damaging the plastic or the finish.

If so, which product would you recommend, and how often should the spray ideally be applied? It would also be important for me to know if there are any special considerations – such as drying times, specific cleaning before application, or possible unwanted side effects on the material.

I would greatly appreciate your practical experiences and tips. Thank you in advance!

Haha, at first I thought, antistatic spray on KALLAX – how exciting can that be?! 🙂 But now I realize: it really makes sense if you find dust annoying.

I tried using an ESD spray from 3M – they are true experts in this field. Just spray it on, let it dry, and bam, much less dust. Since then, I clean my shelf much more relaxed 😉

A small tip: don’t use it too often, or it will get sticky. Once a month is plenty for me.

Spray evenly from a distance of 25cm (10 inches), let it dry, that is sufficient for everyday use. No special effort required.

Just make sure that the surface is clean and free of grease. Otherwise, the spray effectively reduces static electricity buildup.

That’s true, it happened to me as well when I sprayed too generously! It’s best to apply it very lightly and let it dry thoroughly. Then it’s really enjoyable to have less dust!

Besides 3M, I can also recommend Novex Antistatic Spray, which is gentle and has been tested on various surfaces. It is important to always follow the manufacturer’s instructions first and test on an inconspicuous spot.

Also, if something feels sticky, it’s better to wipe it down with a damp cloth and then spray lightly again.
