The current weather situation has me thinking about where we will store our bicycles in the new house.
We won’t have a garage or carport ready by the move-in date yet.
The utility room is too small and not really the right place for them.
How do you handle this? Does everyone have a garage or carport?
A shed? Or maybe even a dedicated bicycle garage?
We use our bikes almost daily, both summer and winter.

Most likely, there will eventually be a carport with an adjacent storage shed.
As a temporary solution, I also considered something cheaper like a metal shed for 200 to 300 EUR (220 to 330 USD). Ideally, it would be second-hand.
I also found the idea of using old shipping containers—20 or 40 feet—in the garden and converting them quite interesting.
However, that’s not an option as a temporary solution since it’s too expensive. In this residential area, two people had placed containers, apparently rented.
We didn’t build a shed ourselves, partly because it was prohibited by the building authority (building permit / planning permission), but we often lacked a dry place to store things. I had once thought about putting up a party tent for about €100 (110 USD) as a temporary measure, but now the carport is on its way.
When I moved in, I actually used my garage for building materials, tools, and bicycles.
The grill and drinks were stored there as well.
It quickly became full.
Next year, a covered space for garbage bins will be built.
A bicycle shed around 3 x 4 meters (10 x 13 feet) plus an overhang will go in the driveway area.
A small garden shed measuring 3.5 x 4.5 meters (11.5 x 15 feet)
And in the other corner, there will be a sauna and wood storage.
That way, there will also be noticeably less lawn to mow in what is called a ‘large’ garden. :P

A storage shed? Or maybe even a separate bicycle garage? Previously a garage, currently a carport, mounted on the motorhome or in the utility room. In the future, the bikes will have a place in a separate small building to be built within the carport. Weather protection is important in our area; theft protection less so.
