In 2014, we bought an older house (built in 1956) and completely renovated it with a new extension. Now we want to add a carport with a garden shed for our car. We have a young daughter (9 months old) and have heard about the child bonus for homebuyers.

Our question is whether we can apply for this child bonus for the construction of a carport. We probably won’t be able to apply retroactively for our house.

A carport is not considered a building but rather an ancillary structure. Therefore, further considerations are likely unnecessary.

Besides, you already own residential property.

Of course, it is possible to claim the construction child benefit for a carport, but the carport must be attached to a newly built house.
