Hello,
I am planning a carport for my new build, see attachment.
Originally, a side length of 7 m (23 feet) was planned next to the neighbor’s property, but this could be extended to almost 9 m (30 feet).
The carport should be freestanding (prefabricated house). Between the carport and the house wall, I am planning a row of laminated safety clear glass panels for daylighting.

Currently, I am considering how to best design the overall layout in terms of length, incorporating a garden shed. I think parking two cars side by side might be too tight?
One idea would also be to place a parking space on the north side facing the street.

I would appreciate your general feedback, experiences, and tips.

Best regards

Our carport has an internal width between the posts of 5.20 meters (17 feet). That’s sufficient since you can also walk between the posts. Of course, wider would always be more comfortable, but you don't want to make everything unnecessarily large. However, I see a problem with the entrance platform, as the second car would park directly in front of it. I would omit the platform and keep everything at the same level. This way, you can fit both vehicles on the property. Alternatively, you could move the house back by one meter (3 feet) to gain more space.

What else do you want to store besides the cars? I don’t see a utility room marked here. You also want to be able to access the bicycles when the cars are inside, which doesn’t work well in this layout.

Hello,

thanks for your feedback.
Moving the house is rather unlikely, it is already fixed.
The platform will be removed; the plan is to pave the ground level evenly.
Two cars would be ideal.
I need to check the equipment room on the south end — how deep should a carport for a car be? Around 6m (20 feet)?
In principle, you can also plan a central beam to make it easier to drive into the carport on the left and right sides. The drawn trash enclosure is not planned; that area can also be paved.

Another idea is to plan an additional parking space on the north side of the house.

Good luck

According to the Bavarian parking space regulation, a parking space in public areas must have a width of 2.30 m (7.5 feet) and a depth of 5.00 m (16.4 feet).
The planned 6.00 m (19.7 feet) length fits well, allowing you to open the trunk even in the rain without getting wet, as long as you park far enough forward.

However, I am a fan of open garage driveways and carports. I would prefer to be able to drive in exactly centered, for example when you want to open all doors fully without having to park at an angle after passing between two supports. Also, I find the risk of bumping too high, so I would make the wooden beam spanning freely correspondingly larger.

You don’t have that much space up there anyway, and you also have to maneuver. A depth of 6m (20 feet) is quite good. We only have 5m (16 feet) due to the plot boundary length, so my Octavia sometimes gets wet both front and back. It’s not the end of the world, but of course, 6m (20 feet) is nicer.

If I understand correctly, you have placed the heat pump outdoor unit on the house wall. It needs to be positioned at least 30–40cm (12–16 inches) away from the wall to allow air circulation. The heat pump itself is about 50cm (20 inches) deep. So, you should expect to need roughly 80cm to 1m (31 to 39 inches) of space there. It’s likely that there won’t be enough room for a parking space in that area.
