Hello everyone,

I would like to build a sideboard from Metod wall cabinets measuring 60x100, about 2.40 m long (7 feet 10 inches)
(Besta no longer offers this size, and I don’t want to deal with multiple doors).
Now, I’m wondering if wall cabinets placed side by side have the same slight overhang as when you place Billy bookcases next to each other. I hope this makes sense.
If yes, would the Ringhult top panel 2.40 m (7 feet 10 inches) long (white high gloss) work here? Is it covered all around with foil, or is the wood visible somewhere?
The wall cabinets are 36.6 cm (14 inches) deep, and the doors or drawers would add to that, while the top panel is 39 cm (15 inches) deep.

Best regards
Martina

Hello,
Now I wonder if the wall cabinets placed side by side also have a slight overhang, like when you put Billy shelves next to each other. I hope this is expressed clearly.

No, I don’t know what kind of overhang occurs when the shelves are placed side by side.
Is this laminated all around?

Yes, but the laminate is glued with overlaps. I believe on three edges, but it’s better to check this directly at an IKEA.

Without the wall rail, the top panel will protrude slightly if the back is flush with the carcass.

At METOD, the side panels also extend by about one millimeter (0.04 inches), but even if they didn’t, it doesn’t look good without a cover panel. You could also place two of these on top:

Hello IKEA expert,

Yes, I have thought about those too, but they are 40cm (16 inches) deep, which would create even more overhang on the cabinet. Also, I’m not sure if a gap between the panels would look good in the end.
Hmm, ideally, I would love to start experimenting at IKEA myself.

I am waiting for the new catalog, but I hardly believe there will be much new that isn’t already available online.

Best regards,
Martina

If the top panel overhangs a few millimeters (a fraction of an inch) at the back, it is not noticeable at all.
