I am considering whether the Ikea PAX system can be used for toy storage in a children’s room and would like to hear some opinions on this. Specifically, I am interested in whether the PAX wardrobes are practical for this purpose, since they are originally designed as clothes closets but might also be suitable for toys due to their flexible interior fittings and various sizes. I am particularly wondering about the height and accessibility for children, whether it is safe to place them in a children’s room (stability, risk of tipping), and how well smaller toys can be stored in the shelves or drawers. The financial aspect is also important to me, as PAX is not the most affordable furniture. Does anyone have experience or recommendations, perhaps even specific tips on how to set it up?

Dear community, from a technical and functional perspective, the Pax system is quite suitable if certain requirements are met: stability through wall mounting, use of appropriate interior fittings (e.g., drawers, dividers, baskets), and adjustment of the height or arrangement of compartments according to age groups. Its versatility allows a modular setup depending on the type of toys – large plush toys require different compartment sizes than small parts. However, the system is not primarily designed for children, so special caution should be taken regarding ergonomics and accident prevention, especially with younger children. Parents should consider this before purchasing.

Really exciting posts, everyone! I think PAX really brings a lot of life to a kids' room when you design it to be colorful and versatile. Visible compartments, colorful boxes, and drawers make tidying up fun for the little ones! You can also create great combinations of doors and open shelves, allowing you to change things up regularly. Safety is important, of course, but with proper wall mounting, it becomes very stable! That’s why I can definitely recommend PAX as an investment. The quality is excellent and it lasts forever. So it’s better to invest once and have peace of mind!

One more point regarding storage in the kids’ room with PAX: For smaller toys, flexible inserts or storage boxes placed inside the drawers are useful. This helps keep things organized and prevents everything from getting mixed up. Simple dividers also make it easier for children to sort their items. Additionally, I recommend using sturdy inserts and high-quality hinges, as daily use can quickly cause wear and tear. This ensures the system remains durable.

Extra tip: Insert T-rails into the PAX frame, then hang boxes on them. This way, the height is adjustable and organization works better.

Exactly, that is the most important aspect for families with young children. Additionally, choosing the right handles and doors matters. For example, sliding doors tend to slam less and reduce pinch hazards, but they are often more expensive and less flexible in terms of layout. It is also essential to consider the room’s flow so the wardrobe doesn’t obstruct the space. Using smaller storage boxes in lower shelves that children can access themselves is also recommended.

I can only agree with that! We labeled the boxes with pictures so our little one can match what goes where. This makes tidying up much more straightforward and is a great help in establishing a routine. Overall, I think PAX is a good compromise between organization, quality, and design, as long as you keep a few things in mind.
