Hello,

I would like to install a cable in my garage for charging an electric car, so that I am prepared. Some say to use 230 V, others say 380 V. What makes sense?

Which cable is recommended? NYM 5x2.5 or even thicker? How many conductors are needed for a charger?

Thank you for your feedback

Just ask the electricity provider where you can get the corresponding "charging stations" 🙂

Best regards in brief

That depends on the length. Nowadays, I would assume 22 kW, so 400 V/32 A. In a new build, I would even have 63 A installed.

For 32 A, with usual lengths, you are looking at about 6 mm² (0.01 in²) cable size.
