Hello,
we will soon receive the handover of our new build and want to install vinyl flooring on the upper floors.
We plan to install the vinyl flooring ourselves and want to lay it as a floating floor (on the new screed).
We do not want to glue it down.
Unfortunately, it is not easy to find the right vinyl flooring.
What types of vinyl flooring are there and how do they differ? (I’m a bit lost here)
Rigid vinyl
Solid vinyl
Click vinyl
Rigid core vinyl
Are there any others?
(I will exclude the types that require gluing.)
Impact sound insulation:
All types of vinyl flooring are available with or without integrated impact sound insulation.
Vinyl with integrated impact sound insulation is easier to install, but what is really better?
Manufacturers:
Which manufacturers would you recommend?
In my search, I came across the following manufacturers:
HORI
Parador
Wineo
Are there other top vinyl manufacturers? What do you think of the brands mentioned? Is vinyl from these manufacturers reliable?
Please feel free to share more recommendations.
What else should be considered when buying vinyl flooring?
What should you look for in the locking system?
Thank you very much for your help.

Your HARO looks good.
Question: the black joint, is it just black or is there actually a gap where dirt could collect, for example? I don’t have anything yet. I’m still researching ;-)
But the joints, at least with laminate, are real.

@taschenonkel Thanks for sharing your experience.
We have currently decided on a type of luxury vinyl flooring that is free of PVC and plasticizers instead of traditional vinyl.
These are the manufacturers we have shortlisted:
Parador - Modular One
HORI - Disano
Meister
What we definitely like is when the floor has an authentic texture (a grain that can be felt in the surface, similar to real wood).
@taschenonkel How is the texture of Modular One?
At the moment, we are also considering whether high-quality laminate might be an alternative,
for example, laminate from Parador or Meister.
What would you recommend more: high-quality laminate or the above-mentioned luxury vinyl flooring?I would suggest that you visit a local home improvement store and take a look at the flooring in person. The Modular One is actually available almost everywhere. We installed it in most of our ground floor (about 170m² (1,830 sq ft)) around 3.5 years ago and are still very happy with it. It has texture, and almost everyone who visits bends down and asks if it’s real wood. There’s nothing that looks like plastic: (please excuse the mess, we have 3 small children and a dog).

Gooosee15931 Jan 2023 13:03@In der Ruine then the joint idea is off for us.
I think dust and dog hair would probably collect in the joints (or can someone who already has this confirm the opposite?)
We want a floor that is low-maintenance and easy to clean, either by damp mopping occasionally and vacuuming.

I think using a vacuum/mop robot quickly solves this issue.
I just prefer a rustic style and not boring honey-colored oak.

@In der Ruine then the idea of grout lines is off the table for us.

@taschenonkel looks good! Thanks! Any vacuum cleaner (robot vacuum) can easily clean grout lines, so I wouldn’t worry about that 😀 Our dog always sheds clumps or individual hairs that then roll together on the floor (often in corners) and can be vacuumed up or picked up. But nothing sticks in the grout lines.
If you want a low-maintenance floor that is easy to clean and forgiving, rigid vinyl/design floors or regular tiles are your best options.

Gooosee15931 Jan 2023 13:52We have tiles in the basement, on the ground floor, and in the bathroom.
We only need flooring for the entire upper floor and attic.
Yes, the floor should be easy to clean.
I’m not familiar with grouting issues; none of our acquaintances have had problems. Most of them usually have laminate or some kind of vinyl flooring without grout lines.
Right now, we’re wondering whether PVC-free and plasticizer-free luxury vinyl plank or high-quality laminate would be the better choice for us.
You wouldn’t recommend ordinary rigid vinyl with PVC or plasticizers, would you? Especially if you have a dog or, eventually, children.
