Hello,
we will soon receive the handover of our new build and want to install vinyl flooring on the upper floors.
We plan to install the vinyl flooring ourselves and want to lay it as a floating floor (on the new screed).
We do not want to glue it down.
Unfortunately, it is not easy to find the right vinyl flooring.
What types of vinyl flooring are there and how do they differ? (Iâm a bit lost here)
Rigid vinyl
Solid vinyl
Click vinyl
Rigid core vinyl
Are there any others?
(I will exclude the types that require gluing.)
Impact sound insulation:
All types of vinyl flooring are available with or without integrated impact sound insulation.
Vinyl with integrated impact sound insulation is easier to install, but what is really better?
Manufacturers:
Which manufacturers would you recommend?
In my search, I came across the following manufacturers:
HORI
Parador
Wineo
Are there other top vinyl manufacturers? What do you think of the brands mentioned? Is vinyl from these manufacturers reliable?
Please feel free to share more recommendations.
What else should be considered when buying vinyl flooring?
What should you look for in the locking system?
Thank you very much for your help.

We ruled out floating vinyl flooring because it combines the disadvantages of different floor types for us. The reason we chose vinyl in our first house was that our supplier offered it fully glued down. This gives it a similar appearance to laminate but makes it much easier to maintain â it can be cleaned with a damp cloth, like tiles.
With floating vinyl flooring, we didnât see a significant difference in maintenance compared to laminate, and visually it looks even more "artificial."

We have the Modular One in Oak Pure Natural from Parador on the ground floor and rigid vinyl from HORI in the basement and bathrooms. Everyone who visits is very impressed. We covered the entire ground floor with the Parador vinyl, and it is extremely durable. Three small children, a dog with claws, even glowing embers sometimes falling from the fireplace cause no damage. You can also easily mop floating vinyl without any problems.
I think vinyl installed as a floating floor always looks completely like plastic. Terrible.

We are currently considering design flooring that is free of PVC and plasticizers as an alternative to vinyl.
We have shortlisted the following manufacturers:
Parador â Modular One
HORI â Disano
Meister
What we definitely like is when the floor has an authentic texture (a surface grain that can be felt, similar to real wood).
@taschenonkel How is the texture of the Modular One?
At the moment, we are also thinking about whether high-quality laminate could still be an alternative,
for example, laminate from Parador or Meister.
What would you recommend more: high-quality laminate or the above-mentioned design flooring?

Is there actually vinyl flooring with surrounding V-grooves? So far, I've only seen this in laminate flooring, and I think it looks really stylish.

Gooosee15931 Jan 2023 12:28@In der Ruine For example, there is the Parador Modular One with a 4-sided joint.
To be honest, I haven't really looked into the joint yet.
Your HARO looks good.
Question: the black joint, is it just black, or is there actually a gap where dirt could collect?
I assume the joint is simply black all around, right?
