Hello everyone,

Our earthworks started on 28.07.2017, and our foundation slab was poured on Wednesday. The site supervisor wanted to inspect everything yesterday but unfortunately had a personal emergency and will be unavailable until at least next Wednesday.
Now the masonry work is supposed to start on Monday (07.08.2017) 🙁

What can we do now? I have tried everything, but I can’t get a replacement site supervisor that quickly 🙁
Has anyone experienced something like this? What can we do? The foundation slab is important, so it should be checked by someone, right?

Help :/

When pouring the concrete slab, I didn’t watch closely and also skipped having a site supervisor. The house is still standing...[emoji2]
Just stay calm; the really big challenges might still come, and not everything is regulated by law. That’s what lawyers are for..

But the construction company has to give me documentation, right? That shows the construction of the foundation slab and the work done. This is legally regulated, isn’t it?

You can now physically check and inspect the proof 😉
You should take photos of every step and keep your own records.

I don’t think the site manager even inspected the foundation slab. After five days, the formwork was removed, and after a week, the area was cleared.

You will be able to see the surface of the foundation slab for a long time – your project supervisor can also form their opinion later on. And a mason won’t build on a foundation slab that is knowingly flawed... You can’t see what’s underneath anyway.

I agree, I should be able to see the proof 🙂

No, I mean more like receiving a document or "confirmation" that everything was carried out according to the structural engineer’s specifications... for example, strip footings that are wider/deeper, reinforcement increased from 1m wide to 2m wide, a membrane or foil placed somewhere in between, etc.

So, at our site the construction manager has already approved the foundation slab. Position and level were checked. However, I believe this is not always done.

If it’s bothering you, why don’t you try to hire an independent expert from Zurich on short notice?

The construction manager is responsible for inspecting the reinforcement and is liable for ensuring that the structural engineering has been executed correctly.

Have you ever seen a site manager present during the pouring of the slab? Here in our project, I have never observed that. This is masonry work, and afterwards, you cannot see what was installed.
