Hello.
I recently became the owner of a Billy wall shelf (120cm x 35cm x 28cm) (47 inches x 14 inches x 11 inches). It was easy to assemble, but I am having a lot of trouble with the three glass doors that come with it. No matter how or where I install them, I can never manage to fit more than two doors because the third one always overlaps with another. I have assembled many pieces of furniture recently, but here I am stuck and can’t figure out a solution either logically or creatively. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me.
Thank you,
Poldine

IKEA-Experte18 Apr 2012 18:35Have you already tried adjusting the doors laterally, as described on page 18 of the assembly instructions? Detailed photos could help with troubleshooting.
Thank you for your reply!
Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos to share at the moment. I hope to provide some soon.
Yes, I have tried fine-tuning; however, even when I adjust the doors as far left/right as possible, the third door still overlaps by almost 2cm (about 0.8 inches), which can hardly be called fine adjustment. In my opinion, the issue stems from the two interior partition walls of the shelving unit, as each is twice as wide as the outer walls (presumably to mount two doors on the same partition). No matter which combinations I try, nearly 2cm (0.8 inches) is always missing on one door. This also seems logical to me given the thick interior partitions, but I saw the shelving unit with all three doors attached at IKEA and bought it for exactly that reason.

IKEA-Experte18 Apr 2012 19:52I assume these are the Billy Olsbo glass cabinet doors. The assembly instructions also show that the three doors can be mounted on the wall shelf. Do the hinges look exactly like the ones in the assembly instructions AA-450086-4?

IKEA-Experte18 Apr 2012 20:43The doors should almost completely cover the cabinet edges. I assume two doors are hinged on the same side and one on the opposite side. The overlapping ones are then hinged on different sides. If all were hinged on the same side, one side’s door would extend beyond the cabinet while the edge would not be fully covered on the other side. Is that the case?
Almost like that... If I were to align all the doors in a row, the last one would theoretically extend beyond the cabinet frame, but practically that’s not possible because the door can no longer be screwed on there. This is due to the middle door overlapping the third compartment so much that attachment is no longer feasible.
Yesterday, I found a picture online showing all three doors installed (they are not glass doors like mine, but I guess they are similar based on the apparent dimensions); the picture is not from Ikea. I then tried to fit the doors accordingly (left-left-right). But even there, I eventually run into the same problem.
I have now measured again specifically. If one of these internal panels had the normal thickness found on the outer walls, proper installation would likely be possible. However, the internal panels are, as original, actually twice as thick.
