Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the installation of an Ikea Metod kitchen in a room with pronounced sloping ceilings. Since the space is limited and the slope angles downward, I am wondering how to install the Metod kitchen cabinets in the most space-saving and functional way.

Are there any special assembly tips or cabinet combinations that work particularly well with sloping ceilings? How can the cabinets under the slope be used optimally without losing important storage space?

I would greatly appreciate well-thought-out solutions, experiences, and possibly product ideas from the Metod range that are specifically suitable for these room conditions.

Thank you in advance!

And hey, don’t be afraid of self-building – plenty of storage space at the bottom, minimalist design on top, keeping it airy and functional!

This statement captures the essence very well. When self-building or modifying Metod cabinets, it is important to use sturdy side panels and top edges with suitable trims or solid wood battens to ensure sufficient stability for cabinets that have been cut to size.

Additionally, I recommend choosing height-adjustable legs for the plinth height and the rear foot area whenever possible. This provides flexibility for uneven floors, which can quickly become an issue, especially under sloping ceilings.

Under no circumstances should cabinets be fixed to the slope or floor without the necessary reinforcements, in order to avoid long-term damage.

For sloped ceilings with an incline as described by mabegu, using so-called "room dividers" or half-height partition walls from the Metod range is recommended. These can serve as either an end panel or a cover for the cabinets and create a clear boundary to the ceiling, especially when upper cabinets are not used.

Additionally, Ikea Metod offers cabinet depths of 37 cm (15 inches) and 60 cm (24 inches), which can be combined strategically depending on the slope. Shallower cabinets placed next to standard depth ones often look more visually appealing.

Installing custom-cut countertops or cover panels is crucial for slope modifications to avoid unused gaps. This also improves usability by preventing dust or small items from falling behind the cabinets.

Especially near water connections, it is important to allow enough space for the pipes and, if necessary, incorporate cutouts.

Another tip: Take advantage of the flexibility of the Metod system by using cabinet carcasses with variable heights and have cover panels or boards custom-made to specific dimensions to create clean transitions or angled finishes.

Avoid installing wall cabinets under sloped ceilings if they make access difficult. Instead, space-saving open-front wall shelves are a good option, as they visually open up the room.

I also recommend organizing storage based on usage: keep frequently used kitchen utensils in easily accessible drawers and store less frequently used items in the angled areas.
