mabeguHello everyone,
I am currently planning the installation of an Ikea Metod kitchen in a room with pronounced sloping ceilings. Since the space is limited and the slope angles downward, I am wondering how to install the Metod kitchen cabinets in the most space-saving and functional way.
Are there any special assembly tips or cabinet combinations that work particularly well with sloping ceilings? How can the cabinets under the slope be used optimally without losing important storage space?
I would greatly appreciate well-thought-out solutions, experiences, and possibly product ideas from the Metod range that are specifically suitable for these room conditions.
Thank you in advance!

Basically, Ikea Metod offers a modular system that allows you to combine cabinets in various heights and depths, making it easier to adapt to sloped ceilings.
It is important not to use tall wall cabinets in the lower areas under the slope, but rather opt for shallower wall cabinets or open shelves. Additionally, cabinets can be custom-cut or finished at the top with special cover panels.
A space-saving solution is to install corner carousels or pull-outs, which optimize storage space even if the cabinet is not fully utilized.
Also, plan with flexible base heights and adjust cabinet depths to make the best use of the space.

The main challenge with sloped ceilings in the kitchen area is accurately measuring the slope and planning the cabinets accordingly.
First, you should precisely measure the exact angle of the slope, ideally using a laser level to determine the angles accurately. Afterwards, it is recommended to build so-called "half cabinets" in the Metod system – that is, cabinets whose top edges are cut or adjusted to fit perfectly under the slope. Ikea itself offers very few standard solutions for this, so you will need to make adjustments yourself.
Storage space can be greatly increased by combining corner solutions with carousels or pull-out organizers, as the sloped areas often otherwise become dead corners.
Another option is to use shallow base cabinets with fully extendable drawers, as these remain easily accessible despite the sloping ceiling.
For cabinet fronts, it is advisable to use smooth, solid-color doors to create a calm visual effect, since the sloped ceiling already adds a lot of texture.
Are there any connections or electrical appliances planned within the sloped area of your kitchen? If so, this should definitely be taken into account during planning to avoid installation issues or restricted accessibility.
What are the exact measurements of the sloped ceiling, and what cabinet dimensions have you planned?

The sloped ceiling starts at about 145 cm (57 inches) in height and drops to around 75 cm (30 inches) over a length of approximately 2.5 meters (8 feet).

Are there any plumbing or electrical fixtures planned in the area of the slope in your kitchen?Yes, the water connection and power outlets are centrally located on the backsplash at about 90 cm (35 inches) in height.
So far, I have planned base cabinets that are 60 cm (24 inches) deep and 80 cm (31 inches) high. I was actually thinking of leaving out wall cabinets because they don’t fit well under this slope.
Would you recommend using only base cabinets here, or are there practical solutions for the upper area?
Wow, that sounds like a really cool challenge! With a sloped ceiling like that, you can create plenty of storage space using low cabinets and smart pull-outs.
Go for drawers – they’re very practical and usable even if the front isn’t full height.
If needed, you can even customize shelves along the slope or create open compartments that are easy to reach.
And hey, don’t be afraid of DIY – lots of storage below, minimalist above, keeping it airy and functional! The kitchen will definitely turn out great! 🙂
