Hello everyone,

I am currently planning a setup with IKEA Platsa cabinets and would like to know if there are practical LED lighting solutions that integrate well with this modular system. It is important to me that the lighting is not only visually appealing but also functional enough to adequately illuminate the interior space, especially in deep or narrow compartments. Does anyone have experience with specific LED systems or recommendations for retrofittable lights that neither look too intrusive nor are complicated to wire?

Compared to more traditional cabinet lighting, I am looking for something that is as simple and flexible as possible to adapt, without having to do extensive DIY work or relying on external power sources. I would really appreciate any tips or practical feedback!

For PLATSA, I recommend simple LED panels with magnetic mounting. You can attach them directly to the cabinet either by adhesive or screws. USB or battery-powered versions work well if there is no nearby power outlet.

As a complement: An effective solution for LED lighting in IKEA PLATSA cabinets should meet the following criteria:
- Fits within the modular units without restricting functionality
- Easy installation with minimal tools or drilling
- Power supply via mains adapter or battery, depending on the location
- Neutral white or warm white LEDs for pleasant illumination without color distortion

Many users prefer slim LED strips with self-adhesive backs that are mounted along the shelves or at the top of the cabinet. A dimmable transformer can be used to adjust the brightness. Models controlled by motion sensors are also recommended to save energy. These can often be well integrated into a rear corner or on the side.

I would advise against DIY solutions unless you have relevant prior experience with electronics assembly, as safety should not be underestimated.

Exactly, I had a similar setup with my PLATSA and find the strips really flexible.

Also cool: There are LED modules powered by USB with magnetic holders – this way, you can easily remove the lighting for charging or replacement. No cable clutter, and nothing needs to be permanently installed.

What I personally love is the option to activate the LEDs via motion sensor. That way, nothing is constantly blinking, and you save batteries.

If you don’t want to do much DIY, these plug-and-play solutions are really the best choice. Hope this helps you!
