ᐅ Are there IKEA PLATSA furniture units available with soft-close fittings?

Zino10Good morning everyone,
I am currently planning my new living room furniture and have been looking at the IKEA Platsa series. I have a few questions, especially regarding the quality of the built-in fittings.
I would like to know if the PLATSA furniture from IKEA comes with versions or options that include so-called soft-close fittings, or if there are at least suitable retrofit solutions available. This is an important criterion for me, as I would like the doors and drawers to close quietly and smoothly to improve both user comfort and durability.
Does anyone have practical experience or reliable information on this? I would appreciate it if someone could provide a detailed explanation.

Hello,
IKEA PLATSA cabinets do not come with soft-close fittings as standard. However, you can buy soft-close hinges and soft-close drawer slides separately and install them yourself. Many IKEA fans do this, especially for cabinets with doors and drawers. Just look for soft-close accessories in the IKEA fittings section.

Hey Zino10,
Last year, I bought some PLATSA components and retrofitted them—soft-close isn’t built-in, but without it, the furniture just feels kind of unfinished, you know? 😉
A little tip: IKEA actually offers compatible soft-close hinges that are pretty easy to install. I think it really makes the furniture feel much more premium. For the drawers, I’d recommend the matching drawer dampers.
This might sound like an ad, but having the doors close softly really adds a sense of calm to the living room.

Soft-close fittings are not standard on IKEA PLATSA.Interesting, but how reliable are these retrofit options in practice?
I ask because I have often noticed that retrofit products do not always work seamlessly with the existing furniture hardware. Are there any solid experiences regarding how well IKEA’s soft-close hinges integrate into the PLATSA system?
I also find it important to know whether they affect the stability or the design of the system.
Rather than just hearing “they exist and you can buy them,” I would appreciate real user feedback that also highlights any issues or limitations.

to clarify some of the open questions: The IKEA PLATSA furniture series is delivered standard without soft-close fittings. This is mainly because the system focuses on modular flexibility while keeping costs low.
The soft-close hinges and damped drawers, which IKEA offers separately, are generally compatible with PLATSA, as the hinges and drawer slides have similar dimensions to those used in other IKEA series, such as BESTÅ or METOD.
From personal experience and feedback from many people I know, retrofitting works well if you have some basic DIY skills. The following points should be considered:
- Installation is somewhat more complex because drill holes may need slight adjustment.
- The soft-close function is effective; doors close softly and quietly.
- The load capacity is sufficient for normal residential use.
Alternatively, there are also third-party soft-close fittings available on the open market that can sometimes be used for retrofitting, but compatibility should be carefully checked.
Conclusion: If soft-close is important, retrofitting is worthwhile, but PLATSA furniture is usually delivered without it by default.
