Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my new shelving system with Ikea Platsa and came across the topic of lighting. Since I find integrated lighting for PLATSA very practical, I wanted to ask: Are there any specially adapted integrated lighting options for the PLATSA system, either from Ikea itself or from third-party suppliers?

I am particularly interested in solutions that can be seamlessly integrated into the modules—that is, no external lamps, but built-in light sources that can ideally also be connected to the Ikea TRÅDFRI system or similar smart controls.

If so, which products would you recommend, and are there any special tips for installation or wiring?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

How well does the smart control via TRÅDFRI work for you? Were you able to integrate the LED strips into the system without major issues, or were there compatibility problems?

The control via TRÅDFRI is generally reliable, but it is important that the LED strips are explicitly labeled as TRÅDFRI-compatible or at least function as Zigbee-enabled LED strips. Basic 12V LED strips with simple power supplies and no digital control cannot be directly integrated into TRÅDFRI.

Therefore, adapters are required that either convert Zigbee control signals into 12V PWM signals, or you need to use specific TRÅDFRI LED modules, although the selection of these at the moment is quite limited. Users report that the Ikea branded LED strips for shelves are often plug-and-play complete solutions, but there is currently no official solution in this segment for Platsa.

You should consider whether you are comfortable with using either a separate remote control setup or a DIY solution with smart controllers.

Regarding the power supply: there are slim 12V power adapters with barrel connectors that can be easily hidden under shelves or behind side panels. You might need to drill small holes for cable routing, as already mentioned.
