Hello everyone, I am currently planning to securely fasten my Ikea Brimnes chest of drawers to the wall to prevent it from tipping over, especially since I have small children at home. Are there any specific tips or proven methods you would recommend for wall mounting this particular furniture series? I know that Ikea sometimes includes their own mounting hardware, but is it sufficient, or is it better to use stronger anchors or additional brackets? I am also interested in whether you use different approaches depending on the wall type (e.g., drywall, concrete, brick). I appreciate any experiences and advice that could be helpful here!

Hey, it’s really important that you want to be on the safe side here! 😊 The included fixings from Ikea are often designed for light-duty securing, so I definitely recommend fastening the dresser with appropriate heavy-duty anchors or molly bolts, especially if you have drywall (plasterboard) walls. For concrete or solid masonry, traditional anchors combined with brackets work best. And very important: always check the furniture manual for the anchor points and use those locations! A tip from me: take the time to make the holes with a rotary hammer drill, then it will hold extremely securely! This way you can be sure the Brimnes won’t tip over, even if the kids pull on it. Enjoy the assembly – it’s worth it 😉!

Exactly! In my opinion, Ikea generally underdelivers when it comes to wall mounting; you could almost say the furniture itself is responsible, not the brackets. Therefore, I fundamentally question whether you can really rely on the standard mounting, at least when it comes to child safety.

Instead, I rely on double-secured fastenings, such as combined metal brackets that can be custom-made and directly screwed into both the wall and the furniture. And if you really want to be sure, you should additionally reinforce the Brimnes cabinet with a well-sized back panel – I consider the original cardboard back panels insufficiently stable for the stress of wall mounting.

For wall mounting the Ikea Brimnes dresser, I recommend the following procedure:

- Use the supplied wall brackets as a base, but replace them with appropriate cavity anchors for drywall, such as toggle bolts or snap toggles, which provide higher load capacity.
- For solid walls (concrete, brick), 8 mm (5/16 inch) anchors are ideal. Make sure to choose a drill bit size that matches the anchor dimensions.
- Use sturdy screws with the correct torque to prevent them from backing out.
- Before installation, verify the exact mounting points according to the assembly instructions to avoid potential weak spots.
- It may be beneficial to install additional metal brackets on the back of the dresser to enhance stability.
- Take care not to damage electrical wiring or plumbing; use a cable detector if necessary.

This approach ensures optimal safety and stability of the Brimnes on the wall.

I like the Brimnes, really clever, but yes, wall mounting is a bit of a challenge. 😅 I attached mine to a drywall (gypsum board) and used high-quality steel Molly bolts. They hold really well, and I also added small flat steel brackets on the sides – it gives a bit more stability and doesn’t even look bad.

A little tip for drilling: use a spirit level and measure twice to make sure the mounts are perfectly aligned. It sounds simple, but it will save you a lot of headaches during installation.

And don’t worry if it’s not perfect – the Brimnes frame is fairly sturdy, so a little adjustment afterwards won’t cause any damage. Good luck and keep cool! 😄

Always mount the supplied wall brackets at the designated points. For drywall, use only cavity anchors. For concrete, use anchors with the appropriate diameter. Additional brackets are always helpful. Check the drilled holes carefully.
