anastasi511 Dec 2020 08:11Hello everyone, I have several Ikea Hemnes furniture pieces at home (cabinets, dressers) that often have to deal with dirt, pet hair, and occasional scratch dust due to my pets (cat and dog). My question for you is: Are there any specific tips or proven cleaning methods to effectively clean Ikea Hemnes lacquered solid wood furniture without damaging the wood or affecting the finish, especially when you have pets that are often nearby? I am particularly interested in how you handle stubborn pet hair and scratch marks. Thank you in advance for your experiences and advice!
Great question, anastasi51! I’m also a big fan of the Hemnes series! 😍 We have two cats and a dog, and I’ve had good experience using a damp microfiber cloth moistened with lukewarm water and a mild dish soap. This works really well to remove pet hair and dirt without damaging the finish. It’s important not to make the cloth too wet, as wood can absorb moisture! For scratches, we often use a special wood furniture repair marker that I can color match. Just give it a try — there are some really good kits available at a low cost. Good luck!
Hello Anastasi, your question touches on an important topic – especially when pets are in the house, furniture maintenance becomes a challenge. I have Hemnes furniture and sometimes it feels almost impossible to keep up with the pet hair. Besides regularly removing hair with a lint roller or a rubber glove, I find that vacuuming with an upholstery nozzle makes a big difference in keeping the furniture surfaces clean. The combination of gentle cleaning and avoiding scratches can be tricky, but don’t let it discourage you!
Wow, really great topic here! 😄 I have a Hemnes dresser myself and two energetic cats who basically use the piece of furniture as a climbing frame. My tip: Wipe it lightly every other day with a damp microfiber cloth and then dry it off. For pet hair, you can also use a special slightly damp cloth that works electrostatically and actually attracts the hair. And don’t worry about small scratches – they’re just part of having pets. Occasionally, furniture wax or wood polish helps, which also restores moisture to the wood.
I understand how frustrating it can be to constantly deal with pet hair and scratches. Maybe you could try incorporating small regular maintenance routines? For example, gently wiping once a week with a mild cleaner and using a lint roller or a special pet hair remover in between. This way, you’ll feel like the furniture stays well cared for and you won’t have to give up when things get hectic.
