LanisoHello everyone,
I have a question that I hope you can help me with: Are there any alternative assembly instructions for IKEA Malm furniture? I ask because, although I generally find the official manuals quite clear, they can sometimes be a bit confusing, especially for certain versions or new models.
Maybe someone here knows of alternative or supplementary step-by-step guides, videos, or tips that make the assembly easier, more efficient, or even a bit more creative. Experiences with different methods that work better than the official instructions would be especially interesting.
Thanks in advance for your feedback, and if you could briefly explain your solutions, feel free to mention the specific model as well. 🙂

I find this question really interesting because I also got stuck at one point while assembling my MALM desk, and the official instructions didn’t help me much.
That’s true, videos often provide more clarity! But I also had moments where I wished someone would share tips or alternative methods that aren’t necessarily official. Sometimes small tweaks in the process or the tools make a huge difference, and you won’t find that anywhere.
Maybe we could start a small collection here? Anyone having issues could share their own variations, even if they’re not 100% perfect yet. That way, we could improve together and reduce frustrating moments.
How do you handle parts you’re unsure about? Do you use any other resources besides the instructions?

It’s great that you brought up this topic! MALM is very popular, but the jumble of screws during assembly can be quite frustrating 🙂
For my MALM dresser, I actually found an alternative set of instructions in a DIY forum, where someone broke the assembly into smaller steps and included photos – this made the process much more relaxed for me!
My tip: Using wood glue in addition adds more stability, even though IKEA doesn’t recommend it. And definitely lay out and check all the parts beforehand, or you might run into trouble later ;-)
Don’t get discouraged, the assembly is worth it! 🙂
