Hello, I have a question now. I often read about additional costs of up to 500 euros per month after building a house.

Why is this amount so high? There might be new items like insurance, but shared additional costs are also paid in a rental apartment, right?

Or am I missing something else? Thank you ☺️

Art is also included. Additionally, wall coverings, carpets, etc.
I couldn’t believe it either...
At least in Baden-Württemberg.
For us, it will definitely be a debate about what counts as living space and what doesn’t...
Let’s wait and see.

Sorry if this is off-topic: How does property tax work in our case, since we are only renovating? Will there be a new assessment at some point? We are not filing any building permit / planning permission or anything like that, so basically, none of the authorities know what is going on here.

Let sleeping dogs lie. Usually nothing.
When the new regulation comes, it will always be adjusted based on age, etc.

No plaintiff, no judge
I've never heard of anyone having to pay higher property taxes after a renovation

The standard forms are uniform throughout West Germany. There is no inquiry about art—where do you get that idea? As mentioned, wall coverings and floor coverings are considered features, which makes sense, but they are not works of art. To be straightforward, I handle these declarations daily, so I would say I have a solid basic understanding. What counts as living space and what doesn’t is also clearly regulated, so there really shouldn’t be any debates about that.

That can happen, but only if a building permit / planning permission is required for the work and if the renovation is significant enough. The thresholds for reassessment are actually quite high.
